When writing original songs, most artists don't know where to start. Starting to write a new song seems very hard. In today's blog, we have some tips for you!
But, before starting, I'll let you know that you can't become a successful songwriter in a day! For beginners, the main problem is that they think their first song will be a hit. It's not true. You need to write 100s of song to become a great songwriter. So, keep that in mind! Don't focus on quality at the start. The more you write, the better you'll become!
So, let's talk about the 3 best ways to start writing a song!
1. Start with a lyric idea

This may seem difficult. However, all you need is one lyric idea! It can be just two words which can be the hook of the song. Or, it can be a line from your favorite book which can be used as verse. Just select the idea. Then, just write more lyrics around that idea or make a melody based on that idea. It may seem hard at first but, this is one of the best ways which professional songwriters use to come up with song ideas!
2. Start with a musical idea

This may seem obvious but, this is also a great way to come up with a song (especially for producers!). Try to mess around in your DAW with different instruments and melodies until you find something you like and start building a song around that! This is probably one of the easiest way to come up with a great song!
3. Collaborate with others

Sometimes, it's very hard to come up with song ideas alone. You may not be able to come up with storyline, lyric idea or melody. So, now what? You should try collabing with fellow artists! Collaboration is actually the best way to come up with song ideas! You can come up with better ideas when someone else's brain is also used. You can start jamming together on an instrument or just brainstorm some potential ideas!
Also, if you don't have any musician friends, you can call your your existing friends to help you out! We may not believe but, many people are very good at writing even if they don't write often. There may be a friend of you who may help you writing a new song! So, don't hesitate to ask your friends!
